He also added transitions to improve the flow of ideas from sentence to sentence. During revision, Jorge added a topic sentence that clearly connected the paragraph to the one that had preceded it. However, he did notice that one paragraph did not have a clear main idea. For the most part, the flow of ideas was clear. As he read, he highlighted the main idea of each paragraph so he could see whether his ideas proceeded in a logical order. Jorge reread his draft paragraph by paragraph. Specifically, we've set up a five-room, 1,300-square-foot test space for home networking tests, with incoming gigabit internet speeds (940Mbps downloads, 880Mbps uploads). For much of the past few years of working from home, that test environment has been my house, but in 2023 CNET's been working to relocate those tests to our test lab, where we can do more to control for variables in the environment. That's why we put every router we review through our own, independent speed tests in a real-world test environment. Router manufacturers make big claims about top speeds, many of which can be misleading or at least confusing when you're shopping for a new one. Though we'd recommend aiming a bit higher, you can even find basic, entry-level mesh systems for as little as $40 per device that can provide a strong Wi-Fi signal throughout your entire home. Mesh systems regularly sold for as much as $500 a few years ago, but now these manufacturers offer multipoint mesh router systems - including the main router and the additional satellite extenders - for closer to $200. Some of the most consistent mesh router performance we've seen in our tests comes from systems from Eero, which popularized mesh networking before being bought by Amazon in 2019, as well as the latest setups from the TP-Link Deco, Asus ZenWiFi, Netgear Orbi and Google Nest product lines. Watch this: Best Wi-Fi Routers for 2023: A Buying Guide For now, here are our picks for the top-tested systems you should be considering first if you're shopping for the best mesh Wi-Fi system options available now. A few of those systems, including the Netgear Orbi 970 series and the Eero Max 7 are already available for purchase (more on those a little further down the post).Įxpect regular updates to this post as new Wi-Fi mesh routers like those make it to market. In 2024, we're expecting to see lots of new systems that support Wi-Fi 7, which promises to make even better use of that 6GHz band for smoother, faster connections. Shop around and you'll find mesh routers from Eero, Nest, Netgear Orbi, Linksys and others that support Wi-Fi 6E, which means they can also access a newly unlocked mass of fresh bandwidth in the 6GHz band. We've still got lots of routers and mesh systems we'd like to try out, the majority of which use Wi-Fi 6 technology, promising better performance and faster speeds. Check out our roundup of the latest Black Friday deals for the best prices on the mesh routers listed below. Many other top-tier mesh routers are worth considering, and we've spent years testing them out to find the best systems of the bunch. For most homes, our top pick is the TP-Link Deco W7200, a two-piece mesh system that offers excellent performance for around $200. The farther away you get from your router, the weaker your internet connection tends to be, but the best mesh routers can fix this. What is the best mesh Wi-Fi system overall? Including an auto-gain feature ensures consistent output levels in relation to the input, irrespective of the EQ changes made. This tool, nestled within the central panel of the interface, provides options to select frequency, intensity, and filter type (bell or shelf), facilitating the creation of more refined and professional-sounding results. Taming harsh or overly prominent sibilant sounds becomes hassle-free with the plugin’s built-in de-esser. This function is useful for applying overall tonal changes without adjusting individual bands. The Gain Scale feature provides a simple means to increase or decrease the intensity of an entire EQ curve, effectively working as a multiplier for all bands’ gain settings. This addition allows for wholesale shifts in the tonal balance of your mix, offering an organic, analog-style adjustment approach with just a single knob. To enhance the versatility of tonal balance adjustment, the Pulsar 8200 includes a six-pole tilt filter. There’s also a gain meter to provide a complete picture of your mix’s characteristics. It pairs with peak and RMS meters for an in-depth look at overall dynamics, loudness, and level matching. With its real-time, fast, slow, and infinite spectrum settings, the on-screen analyzer comprehensively understands the audio spectrum. Offering accurate passive circuitry emulation, an intuitive curve editor, integrated de-esser, mid-side processing, auto-gain, a tilt filter, sub & air band controls, advanced metering, and a spectrum analyzer, it provides music producers and sound engineers a comprehensive toolkit to sculpt audio with finesse and creativity, elevating the overall quality of mixes. The Pulsar 8200 EQ is a harmonious blend of vintage and modern, delivering the warmth of classic passive EQs. Over the years, many developers have attempted to recreate the sound of the original EQP-1A hardware into plugins, and we discuss some of them in this article. It immediately became a must-have tool for studios due to its unique and pleasing sound characteristics. One of the most popular Passive EQs is the Pultec EQP-1A which was released in 1951. Passive EQs are fairly simple since they are normally made of around 5 components only, which is a big advantage compared to active EQs, which are made up of a ton of transistors, resistors, capacitors, tubes, and sophisticated opamps. Instead, it uses passive electronic components like inductors, resistors, and capacitors. Passive EQ is used to create tonal changes without the need for components like tubes, transistors, or opamps. However, one particular type of EQ that seems to be a “fan-favorite” is the Passive EQ. There are many different types of EQ like the Parametric EQ, Shelving EQ, Graphic EQ, and several more. The age of the oldest subaerially-erupted lavas on each island decreases from east to west along the island chain: Lanzarote-Fuerteventura (20.2 Ma), Gran Canaria (14.6 Ma), Tenerife (11.9 Ma), La Gomera (9.4 Ma), La Palma (1.7 Ma) and El Hierro (1.1 Ma). In the case of Tenerife, the volcanic edifice of Teide rises about 7,500 m (24,600 ft) above the ocean floor (about 3,780 m (12,400 ft) underwater and 3,715 m (12,188 ft) above sea level). The other islands are much more rugged and mountainous. Fissure eruptions dominated on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, resulting in relatively subdued topography with heights below 1,000 m (3,300 ft). Subaerial volcanic eruptions continued on each island. Each seamount, built up by the eruption of many lava flows, eventually became an island. The seven main Canary Islands originated as separate submarine seamount volcanoes on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The Canary Islands differ from some other volcanic oceanic islands, such as the Hawaiian Islands, in several ways – for example, the Canary Islands have stratovolcanoes, compression structures and a lack of subsidence. (5) rejuvenation/post-erosional stage (Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife).(3) declining stage (La Palma and El Hierro). This type of island forms by a sequence of development stages: Volcanic oceanic islands, such as the Canary Islands, form in deep parts of the oceans. Volcanic activity has occurred during the last 11,700 years on all of the main islands except La Gomera. Part of the ridge has been submerged and now Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are separate islands, separated by an 11 km (6.8 mi) wide, 40 m (130 ft) deep strait of ocean water. These two present-day islands were a single island in the past. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are parts of a single volcanic ridge called the Canary Ridge. The seven main Canary Islands originated as separate submarine seamount volcanoes on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, which is 1,000–4,000 m (3,300–13,100 ft) deep in the Canarian region. There are also several minor islands and islets. įrom east to west, the main islands are Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro. The Canary Islands are an example of intraplate volcanism because they are located far (more than 600 km (370 mi)) from the edges of the African Plate. The islands are located on the African tectonic plate. The Canary Islands are a 450 km (280 mi) long, east-west trending, archipelago of volcanic islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, 100–500 km (62–311 mi) off the coast of Northwest Africa. The most recent volcanic eruption on land occurred in 2021 and the most recent underwater eruption was in 2011-12. The Canary Islands region is still volcanically active. The Canary Islands and some seamounts to the north-east form the Canary Volcanic Province whose volcanic history started about 70 million years ago. The geology of the Canary Islands is dominated by volcanic rock. Only two teams, the 1981-91 Denver Nuggets, finished a season allowing more points per game. Problem is, they’re giving up 125.8 points - the worst in the league this season. The Pacers are averaging 127.9 points, slightly ahead of Denver’s NBA-record average of 126.5 set in 1981-82. Bruce Brown scored 15 and Buddy Hield had 12, though shot 2 for 11 from 3-point range. Obi Toppin scored 25 for the Pacers, who trailed by as many as 16 in the fourth before making a late run. Haliburton also had 10 assists, the NBA’s first game of at least 44 points and that many assists since Donovan Mitchell’s 71-point, 11-assist night for Cleveland on Jan. World Team Billiards also will serve as the prototype for Pro Team Billiards _ six-player teams representing eight U.S. In 1995 he envisions 32 teams competing over 15 weeks for $1-million in Hong Kong. Last year the Philippines won the $200,000 World Team Billiards championship. This year, six of its 16 events were televised by ESPN or Prime Network.īecause of the overseas popularity of pool, Mackey came up with the idea of teams representing markets where touring pros gather _ Sweden, Germany, Japan, England, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and so on _ and the United States. In 1991, they asked him to be its commissioner. It was successful enough for Mackey to devise the Pro Billiards Tour, owned by the players. Virgin Islands and came up with a British-vs.-U.S. Mackey looked at the British Virgin Islands and U.S. Two years after that, a Virgin Islands yacht company looking for exposure hired him. "They didn't know how to work with people running hotels and convention centers, with corporate sponsors, how to make money from TV."Ī few years later, in 1986, Mackey staged a tournament. "That's like Joe Montana paying to play football," he said. Mackey demurred then, but he was intrigued that the players had to come up with their entry fees. Mackey was operating a Philadelphia convention center about 10 years ago, hearing presentations from promoters of wrestling, music, home shows _ "and one day, here comes Willie Mosconi into my office with some top guys, saying they want to do some pool on TV." We need a few stars to create a breakthrough to a mass audience. "We've begun what I consider the game's golden era," Mackey said. He is a five-time world champion who is far better known overseas and will earn more than $300,000 shooting pool in 1994. It's being replaced by a different breed of player."Įarl Strickland, 33, has won more than 40 tournaments. But we're glad that kind of place, that kind of game, is dying out. You can probably find a few of the old-style pool halls, too. There are a few still around, but they're dinosaurs. That's just another word for predator, anyway. "TV has brought success to the game," Mackey said, "but it also has exposed the hustler. The best hustlers could make a good living a generation ago, scaring up games against local hotshots who had never seen them (and most likely never would again). "But the days of Wimpy Lassiter and Minnesota Fats going from town to town for fast money, those days are long past." "From a nostalgia perspective, I suppose we'd like to hold on to the past to a certain extent," said Don Mackey, 46, of Spring Hill, commissioner (and originator) of the Pro Billiards Tour, World Team Billiards and Pro Team Billiards. We had the stuffed chicken breast and house special salad – both just excellent. The grounds are quite attractive and they have a lovely area suitable for outdoor weddings. The café also bills itself as the Sierra Banquet Center, and their main emphasis seems to be hosting weddings and events. We went to the Log Cabin Café for dinner the other night with some friends – our first visit to the restaurant. I think they could use a better venting system in the kitchen so that cooking odors don't permeate the entire eating area. One drawback for myself was that when I visited the restroom inside the restaurant, the odor of roasting lamb was very strong in the entire restaurant area - I don't care for lamb and the smell was pretty unwelcome. The server returned several times to check on us and overall we had a very nice meal. Soon after our breakfasts arrived and all four of us enjoyed our selections. As a man that was tending the smoker passed, he apologized for the smoke and then moments later came around the corner with a plate of freshly smoked salmon to try! We placed our orders, along with a carafe of mimosas which were served quickly, along with a plate of 4 small mini muffins - all was very good - fresh orange juice was a nice surprise in the mimosas. We were getting the aroma of BBQ smoke, to find that the smoker was just on the other side of the large stone fireplace from our table. Our server was prompt with waters and offers of coffee and other beverages and left us to review the menus. We chose a table outdoors, as it was a beautiful Fall day and the grounds are really lovely and well kept. I think they could use a better venting system in the kitchen so that cooking odors don't permeate the entire eating area.As another reviewer mentioned, the restaurant is not easy to find, however my sister lives in Camino, so we knew right where to go.
Scott, what do you think we’ll be writing about this game on Sunday? There have been some remarkable moments between these two teams. It happened on the opening drive against Illinois, but the Illini had no points to show for it and ended up finishing with 62 rushing yards. The only real issues they’ve had - and this is really nitpicking - is the occasional drive where they’ve given up a few too many rushing yards and have had some shoddy tackling. Manny Diaz has as complete of a Penn State defense as I’ve seen in my 14th season covering the team. Penn State has three defensive ends who could start for just about any team in the country in Chop Robinson, Adisa Isaac and Dani Dennis-Sutton, and sophomore outside linebacker Abdul Carter is one of the best young defensive players in the country, showing off some Micah Parsons-like attributes at times. Johnny Dixon was someone I heard a lot about all offseason, and it’s carried into the season as the starter opposite King. Kalen King has stepped into the role of a shutdown corner. It’s an elite group, even after losing CB Joey Porter Jr. Snyder: So much has been talked said and written about Allar and the offense, but you’re right about the defense. What makes this year’s version different from those in the past? Speaking of which, from what I’ve seen, Penn State might have the best defense in the country. I think this defense will become one of the nation’s 10 best by season’s end, but they still have work to do. He’s a high-level cover corner and a special player if he touches the ball. No Big Ten team has more first-team all-conference DBs than Iowa since 2009, and DeJean is the best of the bunch. They’re so disciplined that when quarterbacks try to do too much, that’s when the interceptions happen. What Iowa does best on the back end is play zone with eyes always on the quarterback. But they are deep up front and have talent, so that will come in time. Their first three opponents have opted for quick passing games to negate the pass rush, and that has prevented them from getting sacks. Losing first-rounders like Jack Campbell and Lukas Van Ness along with NFL players Riley Moss and Kaevon Merriweather has the Hawkeyes working through a few issues. This is a quality defense right now, but it’s still a little off from last year’s elite-level unit. Three were on passing plays of 50-plus yards, and three were in the final two minutes of action in garbage time. How has he looked overall and what happened last week at Illinois?ĭochterman: Organically grown, Penn State-Iowa has become the Big Ten's best rivalry that's not a rivalryĭochterman: The Hawkeyes have won eight of their last nine games and allowed 10 total touchdowns. It’s certainly no thing of beauty, but it’s the outcome that matters, right? On that note, I’ve been fascinated to watch Drew Allar’s growth from elite prospect to starter. But I’ve seen more pedestrian Iowa offenses work through these conditions, provided they take care of the ball. The Hawkeyes finally have an ascending offensive line, but I know what they face this week, so at best it may be a stalemate. Injuries to Kaleb Johnson and Jaziun Patterson will limit the running game, although Iowa has one more upper-level runner in Leshon Williams. Not to be hyperbolic, but junior Luke Lachey was playing as well as any Iowa tight end I’ve seen and is definitely in the same grouping as T.J. Iowa is capable of playing that Rocky Balboa to Penn State’s Apollo Creed type of game, but the injuries on offense make it much more difficult to pull it off. Can Iowa do that, given the current health of its roster?ĭochterman: Great question, Audrey. Penn State expects this to be one of those grind-it-out kind of games. But James Franklin said Tuesday that we all know Iowa and what kind of game this could be. The big question here is starting wide receiver Harrison Wallace III, who warmed up but didn’t play against Illinois. Penn State is mostly healthy at this point. I’m not sure they’ll be that cheeky, but I would do it.īecause injuries - perceived or otherwise - are now on our minds, I wanted to ask you about what Iowa does without its top running backs. Penn State has a real opportunity Saturday night during to lean into this and play Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” during warmups. Snyder: It’s the White Out game with lots of bad blood mixed in thanks to injury-gate. Which ones were the most memorable?ĭochterman: So, Audrey, here we are two years after “Scuba” and “Turtle.” It almost seems like this matchup deserves a “gate” moniker of some sorts. If he is our God, he will lead and keep us even to the last. This God, who has now done such great things for us, is unchangeable in his love to us, and his care for us. See what precious ordinances are its palaces, what precious promises are its bulwarks, that you may be encouraged to join yourselves to it: and tell this to others. 1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. Let us observe the beauty, strength, and safety of the church. Let all the members of the church take comfort from what the Lord does for his church. 1 O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, what deeds you performed in their days, in the days of old: 2 you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free 3 for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but. Let us give to God the glory of the great things he has done for us. All the streams of mercy that flow down to us, must be traced to the fountain of His loving-kindness. Let our minds be filled with good thoughts of God. Let our hope of the stability of the church be encouraged. Let our faith in the word of God be hereby confirmed. Verses 8-14 We have here the improvement which the people of God are to make of his glorious and gracious appearances for them. Both are by the mighty power of the Lord. Nothing in nature can more fitly represent the overthrow of heathenism by the Spirit of the gospel, than the wreck of a fleet in a storm. 4 Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked preserve me from violent men, who have planned to trip up my feet. 3 They make their tongue sharp as a serpents, and under their lips is the venom of asps. The kings of the earth were afraid of it. 1 Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men preserve me from violent men, 2 who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. The earth is, by sin, covered with deformity, therefore justly might that spot of ground, which was beautified with holiness, be called the joy of the whole earth that which the whole earth has reason to rejoice in, that God would thus in very deed dwell with man upon the earth. The clearer discoveries are made to us of the Lord and his greatness, the more it is expected that we should abound in his praises.
